The Joy of 45 Collecting: Lost 45 Tunes Not Available from iTunes, Spotify, or Similar Services
Jukebox "Snippet" 45s: Chronological List of Site Additions
As I add 45s to our inventory, I pick select 45s to highlight with mp3 "snippets" so you can hear the music yourself. I only record "snippets" of tunes I particularly like, ones I think have been under-played and under-appreciated, or ones that are so rare and wonderful I'll never hear them otherwise. For myself, I keep an iTunes playlist of these "snippets," and that playlist is one I listen to most often. These pages chronicle the mp3 "snippets" I've added to our online "jukebox" in reverse chronological order. You can browse the pages to see what was added and when. Click on the blue "Play" button to play the snippet, or click on a song's title to load the page. Many of these 45 records are still for sale, though just as many have been sold. I hope you enjoy perusing these pages as much as I have enjoyed putting them together!
Two great sides of jangly garage rock. The Clefs had two chart singles... this was their first and bigger hit. Check out the mp3 "snippet" for the catchy A side.
Here's a beautiful copy of this awesome Funky Soul rarity from 1973. I was so taken with the rhythm section I had to make an mp3 "snippet" for you to hear. Hope you like it as much as I do! :-)
Time was, Instrumental Rock was a real thing, and there were many bands that really didn't do vocals, but rather relied on slick and creative instrumental hooks to build a song. This rarity is one such example... have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" to hear the great groove these guys deploy.
The jazzy "After Six" may have been the intended A side, but collectors — specifically, Northern Soul collectors — are drawn to the subtle yet irresistible groove that builds up on the B side. Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" to check it out.
I was so taken with the audio and the whole production on listening to it again today that I had to make an mp3 "snippet" for you to hear. It was a big "Modern Rock" hit, but you may not have heard it before... Enjoy!
This single may not have been one of the singer's biggest hits, but it's definitely one of his best: A real eye-opener! Check out the mp3 "snippet" in our "jukebox".
Been searching for a great copy of this masterpiece of early 1970's soul? Look no further... here it is! After listening to this on 45 for so many years now, I was once again struck dumb by the sheer majesty of the audio in the Mono mix on this super-quiet styrene pressing... Like I was hearing it again for the first time. I'm adding an mp3 "snippet" of it for you to hear, but keep in mind that this is a compressed version of the powerful original.
Simply brilliant, as Dave Marsh acknowledged in giving this 45 position 158 in his list of the 1,001 greatest singles ever made. If you doubt, have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" of this copy, which has brilliant Mint audio except for one "pop" and a faint touch of surface noise near the beginning.
Credited to "L.J. Reynolds & Chocolate Syrup," this obscure single has a dynamite A side dancer you won't want to miss! I liked it so much I had to make an mp3 "snippet" for you to hear... Enjoy!
Both sides of this obscure single are dynamite examples of Funky Soul, but it's the B side that grabbed me: Check out the rhythm section in the mp3 "snippet" of the track. This was an early full Stereo 45.
Here's a beautiful copy of one of the hottest, funkiest singles of 1971. Play this one at a dance party some time if you want to get folks onto their feet! Check out the mp3 "snippet" of this copy, which has very nearly Mint audio.
