The Joy of 45 Collecting: Lost 45 Tunes Not Available from iTunes, Spotify, or Similar Services
Jukebox "Snippet" 45s: Chronological List of Site Additions
As I add 45s to our inventory, I pick select 45s to highlight with mp3 "snippets" so you can hear the music yourself. I only record "snippets" of tunes I particularly like, ones I think have been under-played and under-appreciated, or ones that are so rare and wonderful I'll never hear them otherwise. For myself, I keep an iTunes playlist of these "snippets," and that playlist is one I listen to most often. These pages chronicle the mp3 "snippets" I've added to our online "jukebox" in reverse chronological order. You can browse the pages to see what was added and when. Click on the blue "Play" button to play the snippet, or click on a song's title to load the page. Many of these 45 records are still for sale, though just as many have been sold. I hope you enjoy perusing these pages as much as I have enjoyed putting them together!
Here's a beautiful copy of this hard-to-find 1977 single ("I'm His Wife"), which became the second of two chart 45s for Ann Sexton. But you can skip past the A side, because the flip is pure Northern Soul dynamite: Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" of it! By the way, that B side is a non-album cut.
Here's an especially beautiful copy of this big hit for Roy Hamilton, a terrific Deep Soul number you don't want to be without! Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet".
An essential garage rock classic from this bad-boy Boston band. This copy has such great sound I had to make an mp3 "snippet" for you to hear... Enjoy!
Delightful Garage/Sunshine Pop number would have been a bigger hit with better distribution. This beautiful copy had such great audio I had to make an mp3 "snippet" for our "jukebox"... so have a listen!
This classic Surf instrumental was originally released in 1963 on Best 102, with "Here Comes Marsha" on the A side. This is the first pressing of Best 13002 (the hit version) on the blue label. This copy has such amazing audio I had to get an mp3 "snippet" for you to hear... Enjoy!
This modest hit ("I'll Suffer") was Lynn's last chart record, but it's mainly sought out today for the screaming great Motown-style Northern Soul dancer on the B side. We thought so much of it right away that we had to have an mp3 "snippet" for our online "jukebox"... so have a listen! Both sides are partly courtesy of producer extraordinaire Huey P. Meaux.
Southern gospel soul at its very, very best. Both sides are terrific! Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" of ".. Happy Day", my personal favorite of the two.
Finally! Here's a beautiful copy of the original release of this amazing love song, in its first incarnation by the song's writer, the great Dolly Parton. This first release was her followup to "Jolene" and came from the same album. This is the first time I've had the original in the store, and I believe this is the best version of "I Will Always Love You" you can find! Parton topped the charts again in 1982 with a new version of the song, and of course Whitney Houston showed the good taste to record the song in 1992, thereby finally bringing its charms to the pop and soul masses. Inspired by this revival, Dolly teamed up with Vince Gill to record the tune again in 1995!
This fine single didn't chart and isn't particularly valuable, unless you love really great Northern Soul tunes. :-) Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" to hear why I like it so much.
