The Joy of 45 Collecting: Lost 45 Tunes Not Available from iTunes, Spotify, or Similar Services
Jukebox "Snippet" 45s: Chronological List of Site Additions
As I add 45s to our inventory, I pick select 45s to highlight with mp3 "snippets" so you can hear the music yourself. I only record "snippets" of tunes I particularly like, ones I think have been under-played and under-appreciated, or ones that are so rare and wonderful I'll never hear them otherwise. For myself, I keep an iTunes playlist of these "snippets," and that playlist is one I listen to most often. These pages chronicle the mp3 "snippets" I've added to our online "jukebox" in reverse chronological order. You can browse the pages to see what was added and when. Click on the blue "Play" button to play the snippet, or click on a song's title to load the page. Many of these 45 records are still for sale, though just as many have been sold. I hope you enjoy perusing these pages as much as I have enjoyed putting them together!
Here's one of the rarest of the rare 45s ... at least, rare for Elton John. It's that rarest of species that failed to register on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart! Which is a shame, because it's one of his catchiest singles, with Elton mining the Country Rock side of his personality. Pete Townsend does honors on the lead guitar, by the way.
Here's another great obscurity that's hard to categorize... Some might call it "Disco" because of the beat and the female lead singer (credited as Myriam Valle), but it's got something else going on that makes me put it in the Modern Rock column. Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" and decide for yourself!
It's great to hear this self-proclaimed "liberated woman" assert her right to approve of any man she "gets it on" with. "I don't let my body rule my mind" is a good philosophy for many occasions and for both genders. :-) Plus the tune's got a rhythm that just won't quit... check out the mp3 "snippet" I had to rush-release for you to hear.
This quirky and rare Electric Prunes single must be heard to be believed... Check out the blistering guitar solo toward the end of the mp3 "snippet" we've added, partly to showcase the awesome Mint audio on this beautiful copy.
This obscure Funk/Disco dancer is something special! Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" I added to our online "jukebox" here at Classic 45s (click on the blue play button).
Here's a beautiful copy of one of The Velvet Underground's most iconic tunes, on one of only two or three rare singles they released. The A side is specially edited (by more than half!) from a 5:55 album track. If you haven't heard the 45, expect a much brighter, more dynamic and hotter sound than on the LP. Check out the mp3 "snippet"!
