The Joy of 45 Collecting: Lost 45 Tunes Not Available from iTunes, Spotify, or Similar Services
Jukebox "Snippet" 45s: Chronological List of Site Additions
As I add 45s to our inventory, I pick select 45s to highlight with mp3 "snippets" so you can hear the music yourself. I only record "snippets" of tunes I particularly like, ones I think have been under-played and under-appreciated, or ones that are so rare and wonderful I'll never hear them otherwise. For myself, I keep an iTunes playlist of these "snippets," and that playlist is one I listen to most often. These pages chronicle the mp3 "snippets" I've added to our online "jukebox" in reverse chronological order. You can browse the pages to see what was added and when. Click on the blue "Play" button to play the snippet, or click on a song's title to load the page. Many of these 45 records are still for sale, though just as many have been sold. I hope you enjoy perusing these pages as much as I have enjoyed putting them together!
Yeah, I know this is a Country song, but it's also retro-Rockabilly in my book. Whatever you call it, it's so perfect it just cries out for an mp3 "snippet" in our jukebox... so here is one: Have a listen!
This Austin, TX, band had modest success in the late 1980s with 2 albums and 4 singles... this being the first single. Judging from these terrific tracks, including the title song from their first LP, the band deserved better airplay than they got. Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" of the A side.
Here's a gorgeous copy of this highly sought-after Dyke & the Blazers single, in its original Original Sound factory sleeve. Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet", and I think you'll agree this very short song is one great slice of Funky Soul!
Viewed as a novelty single when it hit the charts in 1969, "Israelites" proved to be one of the most enduring pure Reggae classics and as a groundbreaker that opened the doors to the Jamaican music in the U.S. The track is the work of legendary Reggae producer Leslie Kong. I finally gave in to its infectious rhythms and made an mp3 "snippet" for our "jukebox"... This copy has such great audio it seemed only appropriate to celebrate it, so enjoy!
Top notch early hard rock single from this Canadian group, which returned with a string of hits in the late 1970's. We like the A side so much it earns a 2-star recommendation (our highest)... Check out the mp3 "snippet" of "Lady".
This obscure Barbara Lewis single deserved better, as it features two dynamite, uptempo Northern Soul tracks you won't want to be without! Check out the mp3 "snippet" of the A side.
This is an original 1963 pressing with the powerful Mono mix. I'm celebrating the awesome ear-candy experience listening to this copy with its flawless audio by making an mp3 "snippet" for you to hear. Keep in mind, it's a greatly compressed version of what you'll actually hear from the 45 itself... but ain't it grand? :-)
This one deserved much more airplay than it got at the time... I guess Sedaka seemed kind of anachronistic in the summer of the Beatles. This would have been a great hit for the Four Seasons, clearly... a really wonderful uptempo Sedaka classic. Check out the mp3 "snippet" to hear for yourself!
Would you believe this is the first collectable original copy of Freddie Hart's big 1971 hit I've yet had in the store since opening in 2001? I love it so much I had to celebrate by making an mp3 "snippet" for our "jukebox"... so have a listen!
In listening to the gorgeous audio, I noted that the mix is slightly different from the version I'm used to, which is from a Lee Dorsey compilation album. Check out the mp3 "snippet" to hear it.
