The Joy of 45 Collecting: Lost 45 Tunes Not Available from iTunes, Spotify, or Similar Services
Jukebox "Snippet" 45s: Chronological List of Site Additions
As I add 45s to our inventory, I pick select 45s to highlight with mp3 "snippets" so you can hear the music yourself. I only record "snippets" of tunes I particularly like, ones I think have been under-played and under-appreciated, or ones that are so rare and wonderful I'll never hear them otherwise. For myself, I keep an iTunes playlist of these "snippets," and that playlist is one I listen to most often. These pages chronicle the mp3 "snippets" I've added to our online "jukebox" in reverse chronological order. You can browse the pages to see what was added and when. Click on the blue "Play" button to play the snippet, or click on a song's title to load the page. Many of these 45 records are still for sale, though just as many have been sold. I hope you enjoy perusing these pages as much as I have enjoyed putting them together!
The A side is a stomping Northern Soul dancer I liked so much on first listen that I've made an mp3 "snippet" of it... also to celebrate the great audio on this copy.
Here's a beautiful copy of this remarkable 1969 recording, a retro-rockabilly instrumental you probably know by sound but not by name. So, since this copy's audio is so gorgeous, I made a new mp3 "snippet" of the tune for you to check out.
This is one of those one-hit wonders that are much catchier than their title, so after 25 years, it's hard to remember what that little ditty was. Filled with instrumental and melodic hooks, it's a must-have artifact of mid-1980s synth-pop dance music. This is a like-new copy of the original release on Poolside Records in Portland, OR. It's quite a different mix than what appeared on Atlantic and became a hit... Check out the mp3 "snippet" of it.
This is one seriously great dance number, with a powerful sense of menace that you don't normally find in Disco music... Which is why I've decided to put it in the Philly Soul genre instead. No matter... it's a must-have 1975 rarity.
This terrific number grabbed me right away... have a listen to the mp3 "snippet"! I hope you like it, too. This was the Chicago singer's only chart hit, which deserved better than it got, IMHO. As far as I can determine, this was a non-album single (the singer had no albums that I could find). This explains why you won't find the artist or these tunes in Apple Music, Spotify, or other such services, which are based mainly on albums.
Reissued on the beautiful Chess series from the early 1980's, this is a little known — but essential — Howlin' Wolf classic. Check out the mp3 "snippet"!
