This is a new, unplayed stock copy from the collection. This is the very rare first release of these tracks, on the newly formed Volt label. Apparently, Atlantic's Jerry Wexler suggested that the single be re-released on Stax, and the rest is history, as "Green Onions" went on to become one of the most popular soul instrumentals in history, earning it spot #110 on Dave Marsh's list and #183 on Rolling Stone magazine's list. Note: This beautiful copy has pristine Mint labels, and the vinyl also looks new, but has been exposed to some environmental agent during its life, grading Near Mint. The vinyl has light, persistent surface noise audible in the intro that lowers the audio grade to a strong EX (the noise becomes inaudible as the record progresses). Incidentally, there's a fine history of these recordings in the Library of Congress' archives.
