(C45s)I Trusted You/ That's You Baby by Jimmy Clanton

Label: Ace 537 Year: 1957
Condition: EX+ $24.00
I Trusted You/ That's You BabyThis is an original stock copy from the Louise Neal collection. Credited to "Jimmie Clanton & His Rockets." (Note: Future releases spell his first name as "Jimmy.") Released in the fall of 1957, this first single by Jimmy Clanton was widely ignored, and I can't find evidence that Ace did any marketing for their new "teen idol." It would be another 9 months before Ace released Clanton's second single, "Just A Dream," which did make the artist a success. This first release has two great sides, both featuring Huey "Piano" Smith's band and perhaps other Ace luminaries like saxophonist Lee Allen. Of the two, "That's You Baby" is the better rocker — in fact, it captures a raw passion that's missing from most future output from this singer. Note: This 45 is among those in the Neal collection that spent some of their life outside a protective sleeve. In this case, the labels are Near Mint, reflecting very light ringwear, mostly on the "Trusted" label. The vinyl has some light "streaking" that looks liquid in origin but otherwise has only light signs of use, grading EX. The A side audio is very close to Near Mint, depending on how tolerant you are of occasional very light surface noise; the B side is solidly Near Mint... it too has a tiny bit of surface noise, but it's hardly noticeable. I'm going with "EX+" for the overall audio grade.
