Here's a beautiful-looking copy of the first release of this iconic Bowie single. On this 1972 release, the record climbed only to #66 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart. But remember, this was still very early in Bowie's career. In the U.S., this was only his second chart single, the first being the original 1969 release of "Space Oddity," which barely "bubbled under" the Hot 100, to #124. When "Changes" was re-released in 1974, on the gray RCA label, it did better, but still fell short of the U.S. Top 40 when it peaked at #41. At the time, it was Bowie's biggest U.S. hit to date. The artist would finally crack the U.S. Top 40 in 1975 with "Young Americans" and "Fame." By the way, both sides of this single are specially edited from longer (3:33, 3:53) album tracks. Note: This 45 record comes in a vintage RCA Records factory sleeve. While the record itself looks Near Mint, with only very faint signs of wear, the audio has some light surface noise audible during the soft passages. The second half is a solid Near Mint... in fact, it's pristine by the end. In listening a second time, I think I'm making it sound worse than it is... It really is glorious! Overall, I'm grading the audio a strong EX.
